Turn off the Internet for one game: faster launches, no ads, and when not to
Every game in VipMod has an Internet switch: long-press its tile and it's right there in the game's options. Turn it off and only that game loses its connection, while your phone's Wi-Fi, your other apps and your other games carry on as usual. The change takes effect the next time the game starts. It's the switch we use most when testing, and also the one that causes the most confusion.
What turning it off gets you
- Much faster launches. Many games call home as they start, to fetch settings, ads and events, and then wait for the answer. With no network, they give up after a few seconds instead of waiting for everything to download. On a slow phone, that can save tens of seconds.
- No ads, even in a game without a mod, because an ad has to download before it can play.
- No syncing of your progress to the server, which helps when you're trying out a mod and don't want strange numbers pushed to your account.
When not to turn it off
- Games that make you sign in on the first screen, with Google, Facebook or an account of their own. Offline, they get stuck there with a "can't connect to server" message or a spinner that never stops. That's not a mod problem.
- Games that only run online, even when you play alone. Some casual games that look offline download each level from their server, and the giveaway is that they never get past the logo screen without a connection.
- When you want to watch ads for rewards. No network means no ad to watch, so the reward button grays out.
How to use it properly
- When you first install a game, leave the Internet on. Open the game, let it download its starting data, and sign in once if it asks you to.
- Close the game, switch the Internet off and open it again. If it plays normally, the game works offline, and you can leave the switch off for faster launches.
- If it gets stuck on the first screen, turn the Internet back on, because that game needs it. To cut ads without cutting the network, try Block ads in Game tweaks instead; it handles most games, although rewarded videos won't load while it's on either.
How is this different from airplane mode?
Airplane mode cuts the network for the whole phone, while this switch cuts it for one game. On an emulator like LDPlayer, airplane mode is only for show and doesn't cut anything, so this switch is the only way to test a game offline there. There's more about emulators on which phones can run VipMod.
A case from our own testing
While testing a well-known puzzle game in the store, we switched its network off to check the coin mod, and the game wouldn't open a single level; it just sat on the map. The mod wasn't broken: that game loaded each level's settings from its server, so with no network there were no levels. With the network back on, the coin mod worked fine, which is why the first thing to try when something looks off is putting this switch back the way it was.
