Xiaomi, Oppo or Vivo closing games in VipMod: where to turn off battery saving
It usually goes like this: you're in the middle of a game, you step out to answer a message, and when you come back the game in VipMod is sitting on its first screen again. Or you turn the screen off for a few minutes and the game is gone when you return. It's rare on Samsung and Pixel phones. On Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Realme it's almost guaranteed until you change a setting or two.
What's happening
These brands put their own battery manager on top of Android, and it's much stricter than the standard one: an app that isn't on screen for a few minutes gets closed, whatever it's doing. A game in VipMod runs under VipMod's name, so when the system closes VipMod, the game inside goes with it. Android counts this as the system reclaiming an app rather than a crash, which is why you never see an error.
VipMod already does what it can from its side. While a game is open in the background, VipMod keeps it marked as running (that's the Game running in background notification you may see), and the system is supposed to leave such apps alone. Allow background activity in VipMod's Settings goes a step further and asks Android to exempt VipMod from battery optimization. The phone maker's battery manager can still overrule both, so the steps below are what actually fix it.
Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO
- Go to Settings → Apps → Manage apps and find VipMod.
- Tap Battery saver and choose No restrictions.
- Turn on Autostart.
- In the recent apps screen, long-press the VipMod card and tap the padlock, so "Clear all" doesn't close it.
On HyperOS, also check Settings → Battery. If battery saver mode is on there, turn it off while you play.
Oppo, Realme and OnePlus
- Go to Settings → Apps → App management → VipMod → Battery usage and turn on Allow background activity. On older versions, look under Settings → Battery instead and turn off battery optimization for VipMod.
- On the same Battery usage screen, turn on Allow auto launch if your version has it.
- In the recent apps screen, lock the VipMod card, either by pulling it down or through the menu on the card.
Vivo
- Go to Settings → Battery → Background power consumption management, find VipMod and allow it. On older versions the same switch sits in i Manager, in the app manager's list of apps allowed high background power consumption.
- In the recent apps screen, lock the VipMod card.
Samsung
It doesn't happen often, but if it does, go to Settings → Battery (on some versions, Device care → Battery) → Background usage limits → Never sleeping apps and add VipMod. While you're on that screen, turn off Put unused apps to sleep.
Still closing after all that
Then the cause is usually memory rather than battery. Android reclaims the game's companion process and the game goes down with it. The way to tell the two apart is that a memory problem closes the game even while you're still playing it. The fixes for that are in the guide for 2–3 GB phones. And if a game crashes the moment it opens rather than after a few minutes, that's a different problem altogether, covered in games that crash on their first screen. You can also report it in VipMod → Support → Report a bug, which sends your phone model and VipMod version along with it.
