Mod on but nothing happens: 6 reasons and how to check each one

This is the bug report we get more often than any other, and most of the time nothing is actually broken: the mod just hasn't met the conditions it needs to show its effect. Before anything else, long-press the game's tile in VipMod and check that the line under its name says MOD on. Then go through the list below in order and stop at the first one that fits.

1. The game has to be opened twice after you install it

Plenty of games create their save file the first time they run, and the mod latches onto that file. On the very first launch the file doesn't exist yet, so the mod has nothing to hold on to. Kingdom Rush is a good example: its first launch after installing always runs without the mod, and the second one picks it up.

How to check: close the game completely by swiping it out of your recent apps, then open it again from VipMod. Any game that needs this says so in the Mod features section of its page.

2. You're on a screen where the mod has nothing to change

A switch like "gold that never runs out in battle" only does its job inside a battle, so on the world map there's no battle gold to show and nothing looks different. Currencies such as gems usually show up on the map or in the shop instead. In Kingdom Rush, the battle gold appears the moment you enter a level, while the gem counter fills up on the world map.

How to check: reread that item's description on the game's page. Each one says where you'll see the effect.

3. The game just updated and the mod hasn't caught up

Every mod is made for one version of a game. When the game moves to a new version before its mod is ready, VipMod deliberately doesn't load the old one, because a mod built for another version is how a game ends up crashing on its first screen. The MOD menu may still appear, but the items in it won't do anything.

How to check: compare the game's version on your phone with the version on its page in the store. If they differ, wait, or message us to ask how the new mod is coming along. More on this in what happens when a game update breaks the mod.

4. The game loaded the level before you turned the mod on

Some games read a level's numbers once and hold on to them, like the move limit in a match-3 puzzle or a price that's fixed the moment its button is drawn. Turn the mod on halfway through and that level keeps the old numbers. In Lucky Heroes, the cheaper training prices only show up after you close and reopen the TRAIN panel, and God Mode in Star Blaster needs the whole game reopened, since replaying a battle isn't enough.

How to check: turn the mod on, close the game completely, open it again and start a new level. The MOD menu flags these items for you, with a note that says either "Changing this needs a game restart to work" or "Changing this works from the next match or level".

5. Your plan doesn't include that item

The Free plan comes with the basic mod features, such as ad removal, while the deeper items need VIP 1 or VIP 2. In the MOD menu they're grouped under NEEDS A HIGHER PLAN, and tapping one tells you which plan it takes. On a game's page, the note for a paid item starts with the plan it requires.

How to check: open the Account tab in VipMod to see which plan you're on. What each plan includes, and the current prices, are on the Plans screen in the VipMod app.

6. What you want lives on the game's server

In online games, money, gems and items are usually kept on the publisher's server. A mod can change the number on your screen but not the real one, so the number snaps back after a few seconds or the moment you try to spend it.

The store leaves items like that out, and when a server starts refusing one that used to work, the game's page says so. That's what happened to the free Shop packs in Black Deck once version 1.36.1 made the server ask for a real payment on every pack.

How to check: if the game plays offline at all, long-press its tile, switch its Internet off, restart it and try again. If the mod works offline and vanishes once you're back online, the server is overwriting it.

Still nothing?

Long-press the game's tile and tap Report a bug in this game. Tell us which mod item it is, which screen you were on, and how many times you've opened the game since installing it. Those few lines often turn a reply that would take days into one that takes hours. When we confirm an item is broken, a warning goes up on that game's page so the next player doesn't run into it.
