Game updated, mod stopped working: when the new mod arrives and what to do meanwhile

Yesterday everything worked. Today the game asked for an update, and now the MOD menu still shows up but none of its items do anything, or the menu is gone altogether. Nothing is broken: this is how the system is designed to behave, and below is why, along with what you can do about it.

Why a mod is tied to one version

A mod works by stepping into exact spots in the game's code: where money is counted, where moves are tallied, where an ad gets drawn. A new version shifts those spots around and sometimes renames them, so the old mod no longer knows where to step.

Load the old mod into the new game anyway and the most likely result is a crash on the first screen. The worse outcome is a game that runs but quietly damages your save. So VipMod checks the version first and doesn't load a mod that doesn't match. The game still plays normally, just without the mod for now.

Online games get an extra layer of caution. Right after some of them update, VipMod keeps the game locked for a short while, because playing online with a mod that doesn't match the new version is exactly when accounts get banned. The lock lifts as soon as the updated mod is ready.

Sometimes the update arrives while you're playing

Many games download fresh data while they're open, without asking. When that happens, the session you're in runs without the mod, and the MOD menu tells you the game just updated. One restart fixes it: tap the restart bar at the bottom of the menu, or close the game fully and open it again.

When the new mod arrives

For games in the store, we rebuild the mod for the new version and test every item again before releasing it. Games with more players go first, and the wait usually runs from a few hours to a few days, depending on how much the game changed.

To see where things stand, compare the version on the game's page in the store with the one on your phone. When they match, the mod is ready. You can also ask us in the app, and we'll tell you how far along it is rather than leave you guessing.

While you wait, you have three options

  1. Play without the mod for a few days. Your progress stays where it is, and the mod picks up again once it's out.
  2. Hold off on the update. Most games in VipMod run from the copy Google Play put on your phone, so when Play updates that copy, the game in VipMod updates too. To stay on the version with a working mod, open the game's page in Google Play, tap ⋮ and uncheck Enable auto update. (A copy installed from APKPure only updates when you tap Update in the VipMod Store.) This won't help with an online game that refuses to connect until you update.
  3. Order the mod yourself. If your plan includes DIY Mod, you can have a mod made for the version on your phone instead of waiting for the store. If you've ordered one for this game before, follow up on that request rather than starting over, since the assistant reuses what it already learned about the game.

Already updated and want the old version back?

Android won't install an older version of an app over a newer one, so there's no undo button for an update. VipMod has a way around that when the version the mod was tested on can still be downloaded. Back the game up first (here's how), because the steps below remove it from your phone.

Uninstall the Google Play copy, the icon on your home screen. The VipMod copy runs from it, so its progress goes too, which is why the backup comes first. Then open the game in the VipMod Store and tap Get mod: when the dialog lists Install older version followed by a number, pick it, and you get the version the mod was made for.

Restore your backup afterward. A save written by a newer version won't always load in an older one, though, and an online game may still insist on the update.

Do you need to do anything when the new mod is out?

No. VipMod checks for a new mod each time you open the game, and as soon as there's one for the version on your phone, it loads on its own, with no reinstall. If you're still waiting, it's because we haven't finished yet, not because you missed a step.
