New phone, same progress: back up and restore games in VipMod

The games you play in VipMod keep their data inside VipMod's own space, separate from the rest of your phone. That's why uninstalling VipMod wipes it, and it's also why VipMod can back it all up without root. Here's how, along with the things a backup can't do.

Back up a game

  1. Long-press the game's tile in VipMod and tap Backup. The same screen is under Game tweaks → Backup & restore.
  2. Tap Back up now. VipMod closes the game if it's running and packs its progress, settings and save files into a single file.
  3. The first time, VipMod asks where to keep backups. Pick a folder on your phone, such as Download, and your backups survive even if you uninstall VipMod. Backups kept inside the app go with it.

Name a backup if you'll want to find it later, say "before the boss fight". To move one to another phone, a computer or Google Drive, tap it and choose Export to file. You get a .pbsave file that you can copy like any other file.

Two safety nets work without you lifting a finger. Clear data takes a backup before it erases a game's progress, as long as there's room on your phone for it. And uninstalling a game from VipMod leaves its saved backups where they are, so you can install it again and restore.

Restore on another phone

  1. On the new phone, install VipMod and then install the same game from the store, on the same version if you can.
  2. Long-press its tile, go to Game tweaks → Backup & restore → Import from file, and pick your .pbsave file.
  3. Tap the backup, choose Restore this backup, then open the game. Your progress and settings are back where you left them.

Restoring replaces whatever progress the game has right now, and it can't be undone. If the current copy has anything you'd like to keep, tap Back up now first.

Where backups stop

  • Online games keep your progress on their servers. A backup carries the settings and files stored on the phone, while your real progress follows your game account and comes back when you sign in again. A backup doesn't copy an account.
  • Some games tie progress to the device. A game that identifies players by their phone may treat the new one as a new player even after a restore. It's rare, and the game's page mentions it when we know.
  • Restoring onto a different version of the game can leave the save unreadable. That's a limit of the game itself, the same one you'd run into switching phones without VipMod.

Why progress from outside VipMod can't come in

We hear this one a lot: "I've played this game on my phone for two years, can I bring my progress into VipMod?" Without root, no. Android keeps each app's private data folder off-limits to every other app, even one you've given access to all files, and we've confirmed that on Android 13. The only part anyone can reach is what a game saves to public folders, and very few games do that.

What actually carries progress over is the game's own account, whether that's Google, Facebook or the game's own sign-in. Sign in with it in the copy that runs in VipMod, and if the game keeps your progress on that account, it comes right back.

Back up regularly

For an offline game you've put real time into, make a backup after every big milestone. The file is usually small, and it's the only insurance you have against a lost or broken phone, because data inside VipMod isn't part of Google's automatic phone backup.
