Fake GPS for one game only, while your phone stays where it is

Fake GPS for one game only, while your phone stays where it is

A regular fake GPS app moves your whole phone: set a fake spot for a game, and your maps, your delivery apps and your bank's app all see it too. VipMod does the opposite. Its Fake location setting changes the position inside one game's space only, and everything else on the phone keeps the real one.

Type the coordinates, or tap a city

  1. Long-press the game's tile in VipMod, open Game tweaks and tap Fake location under Language & region.
  2. Type a latitude and a longitude, or tap a city under Quick pick. New York, London, Tokyo and Sydney are among them.
  3. Tap Set location and open the game again. When it asks for its position, it gets the point you set.

To get a spot's coordinates, long-press it in Google Maps and they show up in the search box at the top, ready to copy. Use a dot for decimals, as in 40.7128 and -74.0060.

There's no Developer options switch to flip, no mock location app to choose in Android's settings and no root. The game asks Android where it is, and VipMod answers for Android, for that one game. Each clone of a game keeps its own position, so two accounts can sit in two different cities.

Newer map games won't see it

The setting works with games that read GPS through Android's own location service. Games that get their position from Google's location services, which includes most newer map-based games, won't see the change, because VipMod can't yet tell those requests apart game by game. The Fake location screen says so before you set anything, and it's worth reading before you plan around this feature.

Where a fake position is actually useful

  • Games with regional events, or content that changes with where you are.
  • Games that check your country as they start. Together with a language for that game, it sometimes opens another country's version, but most region locks go by your account or your internet connection rather than GPS, so keep your hopes modest.
  • Plain curiosity, to see what a game shows somewhere else.

Where it gives you away

  • Some games cross-check your GPS against your internet address, your time zone or how fast you seem to be moving. GPS in Tokyo with a connection in Chicago is an obvious mismatch, and the game may lock the account for a while. VipMod doesn't fake your connection or your time zone.
  • Jumping from New York to Los Angeles in a second is exactly what location-based games punish hardest. If you have to move far, close the game, change the position, wait a good while, then open it.
  • VipMod sets one fixed point. It doesn't simulate walking or driving along a route.

Use real location puts it back

Open Fake location again and tap Use real location. The next time the game starts, it sees where you really are. The fake position isn't stored anywhere except in that game's setting in VipMod.

Location games treat spoofing as cheating

In games built around your location, faking GPS is almost certainly against the rules, and the big ones hand out penalties that get stricter each time, up to a ban. We put the feature in because it has fair uses, like testing, or games that only use location for local weather or time of day, and not as a promise that it's safe in online games.
