Mod features

What the mod adds when you play in VipMod

  • Damage multiplier

Your outpost's bullets and skills deal 2 to 10 times the damage to monsters in stage battles. Tap the red VIP button on the left of the game screen, switch the option on and pick a multiplier from the row of numbers (5 by default); it takes effect right away, no restart needed. At x10 my Scatter shots went from 8 damage to over 100 per hit.

Requires VipMod VIP1. It only multiplies the damage you deal: your outpost's HP and the 5 energy each battle costs stay the same.

  • Skip reward ads

Tap any button with a video icon and you get the reward without watching an ad: the free Planetary and Stellar Chests in the Shop open straight away, the free 500 star coins land at once, and Double Rewards on the result screen doubles your stage rewards after a few seconds. Turn it on in the MOD menu; turn it off and the game plays its ads again.

Daily limits still apply: each free chest, coin pile and the five Double Rewards a day are used up just as if you had watched the video.

About this game

I went into Space Outpost: Drone War expecting a simple space shooter, and the first stage almost played itself. My outpost sat at the bottom of the screen, its main turret fired on its own, and all I had to do was pick a card whenever a Level Up screen appeared. The pause came later, on the module screen, where the second upgrade for my favorite turret asked for 1,000 star coins while a stage paid me 150.

Twenty waves, one outpost and a card every time you level up

A stage is twenty waves of alien swarms drifting down from the top, with a wave counter and a timer in the corner. Your outpost has a curved shield worth 3,000 HP, and anything that reaches it chips away at that number. The first stage, Normal 1-1, took me a little under five minutes, and I finished it with 98% of my HP left.

Every time you level up during the fight, the game freezes and offers three cards. Some install a new weapon module, like Explode Chaser, which sends out fire drones that blow up on contact, or Hive, which deals ice damage. Others upgrade something you already have, such as Piercing Scatter, which lets the main turret's shots pass through one more enemy.

After the tougher waves you also get an Extra Selection, two face-down cards that you flip one by one and then claim together. My first pair was Flame Burst, which leaves a burning patch wherever a chaser drone explodes, and Drifter Particles, which adds a chance of electric sparks on every hit.

Fire, ice and lightning, and the game tells you what each enemy hates

Every module deals one kind of damage, either fire, ice or electricity. When a new enemy type shows up, a small card slides in to describe it. The Eye Spirit was "Numerous; low HP", while the Destroyer came with "High DMG" and a tip that it's weak to ice, which is a nudge toward Hive.

The cards stack in satisfying ways. By the end of my first stage I had Scatter firing several shots at once, four chaser drones, a Drifter bouncing lightning between enemies and a Hive turret. The result screen breaks down who did the work, and Scatter came out on top with 36% of the damage, just ahead of the drones.

Modules, gear, chips and a research tree between stages

Back in the lobby, the run's cards are gone and the long-term progress lives in four menus. The Module screen has a level for each weapon you've unlocked. Scatter cost me 500 star coins and 75 module cores to reach level 2, which added a new card called Dense Scatter with four extra bullets. The next upgrade was 1,000 coins and 150 cores, and four more modules stay locked until your captain reaches levels 5, 8, 11 and 14.

The Character screen holds six pieces of gear, each with chip slots. My first chip, a boots chip, added 10 attack, and raising a helmet from level 1 to 2 cost 106 coins and two blueprints. There's also a research tree, where the first node raised attack for 80 coins and 10 research cores.

The stage list also shows three chests for every stage, and my first clear unlocked two of them. They held research cores and a handful of gear blueprints, which is exactly what the gear and research menus ask for.

Five energy a battle, and about ten minutes for every point back

This is where the game starts to slow you down. Every battle costs 5 energy, the bar holds 30, and the timer brought back one point roughly every ten minutes. Six stages in a row empty the bar, and after that each new attempt means waiting close to an hour.

The coin math makes that wait hurt. A Normal stage paid me 150 star coins, so the 1,000-coin Scatter upgrade is about seven stages away, more than a full bar of energy. Double Rewards at the end of a stage doubles the payout after a video, with five tries a day.

The shop pushes crystals, the premium currency. The packs I scrolled past went as high as $199.99 for 16,000 crystals plus a bonus 16,000, and Google Play lists in-app purchases from $2.99 to $199.99 per item. Crystals open chests, where a Planetary Chest costs 50 and a Stellar Chest costs 250, and each chest also has one free open behind a video.

The Star Coin shop has the same pattern. A pile of 500 coins is free once a day after a video, 300 more are free without one, and bigger stacks of 1,000 or 5,000 cost crystals. Meanwhile a banner selling an SVIP card with no ads sits under every result screen.

What the mod changed in the very next stage

In VipMod, a red VIP button sits on the left edge of the game, and tapping it opens the MOD menu with two switches. I turned on Damage multiplier, picked the top level of 10 from the row of numbers, and also switched on Skip reward ads. Neither one needed a restart.

The difference showed up in Normal 1-2. My Scatter shots had been hitting for 8 in the first stage, and now they landed for 83, then 106, then 145 as my cards stacked, with critical hits over 1,300. I finished the stage with all 3,000 HP and a Perfect clear, and Scatter alone dealt 627,818 damage at 2,578 per second, against 150,119 and 527 the stage before.

The ad switch covered the rest. I tapped Double Rewards and no video played, then a few seconds later the rewards on screen doubled, from 150 star coins to 300 and from 15 EXP to 30, and the coins were in my balance back in the lobby. The free Stellar Chest and Planetary Chest each opened straight away and handed me a chip, and the 500 free star coins arrived without a video too.

A few things to know up front:

  • Skip reward ads works on any plan, while Damage multiplier needs VIP1.
  • The multiplier only changes the damage you deal, so your outpost's HP and the 5 energy per battle stay exactly the same.
  • The free buttons still count against the daily limits, so the 500-coin pile went from 1/1 to 0/1 just like it would after a real video.
  • Rewards paid by the game's server take a few seconds to land, so give the screen a moment instead of tapping again.

How it played on my screen

The fights are the best part. The neon explosions and the swarm patterns look great, a stage fits into a five-minute break, and every Level Up is a real choice between a new weapon and a stronger version of one you trust. The element tips also give you a reason to change your build instead of grabbing the same cards every time.

The weaker part is everything that surrounds a stage. Tutorial arrows walked me through every menu before I could open the shop, and the Destroyer's info card stayed pinned over the lower corner for an entire stage. The energy bar is the real ceiling, and it arrives early.

The game has 3.7 stars from about 600 reviews on Google Play, more than 100,000 downloads and an Everyone rating. It's available in English, German, Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean, and the settings offer 100 crystals for linking a Google account.

So who should download it

If you like roguelite card picks layered on top of a shooter, this is a good fit, because each stage feels different depending on which modules show up. It's also easy to pick up, since the turret fires on its own and your only job is to build something that melts the next wave.

If you already tried it and drifted away when the coin and energy math started to bite, the mod targets both halves of that problem. Ten times the damage means fewer failed stages and wasted energy, and the free chests and doubled rewards turn every clear into twice the upgrade material without a single video.
