What the mod adds when you play in VipMod
-
Currency & points
Raises gold, rubies, Evolution tree skill points and 5-star stones to whatever amount you set on the slider. The new numbers are really spendable: unlock Evolution tree nodes, upgrade gear, spin the gear chest with rubies in the Shop.
Turn this on BEFORE launching the game; if you turn it on mid-game, you have to fully close and reopen the game for it to work. The balance bar at the top of the screen only redraws after a transaction, so if you don't see a change yet, open an upgrade panel and you'll see the right number. Turning this off doesn't take back what was granted.
-
Chest keys
Raises all three kinds of chest keys, silver, gold and rune, to the amount you choose, so you can open chests back to back without waiting for free turns. Go to the Shop, Equipment tab, and scroll down to see the new numbers right under the Silver Chest and Gold Chest.
Turn this on BEFORE launching the game; if you turn it on mid-game, you have to fully close and reopen the game for it to work. Turning it off doesn't take back the keys already granted.
-
Bag items
Raises the count of every fragment in your Bag to the amount you choose, including gear blueprints and character cards. Open the Character screen and its Bag tab to see the new numbers, and those fragments really can be spent: tap Max Level on a piece of gear and it eats the fragments and jumps straight to level twenty.
Turn this on BEFORE launching the game; if you turn it on mid-game, you have to fully close and reopen the game for it to work. It only raises fragments you already have at least one of; the mod doesn't create new kinds of fragments.
-
Stamina
Keeps the stamina bar, the lightning bolt at the top of the screen, always at the level you choose. Each stage run costs 5 stamina, so with this on you can jump into battle after battle without waiting for it to refill.
Turn this on BEFORE launching the game; if you turn it on mid-game, you have to fully close and reopen the game for it to work. The amount is re-applied every few seconds rather than instantly. Turning this off doesn't take back what was granted.
-
Max VIP
Sets your VIP level to whatever you choose, up to 15. At VIP 15 your hero gets a flat +45% attack, +45% defense, +45% HP, +30% crit chance and +40% healing effectiveness, plus the daily VIP gift slot and the privilege pack.
Turn this on BEFORE launching the game; if you turn it on mid-game, you have to fully close and reopen the game for it to work. As soon as you reach the lobby, tap the avatar in the top-left corner once to open the profile panel; the mod needs exactly that moment to latch onto the VIP data. If you open it a few minutes late, you'll have to close and reopen the game. The first time, the panel still shows VIP 0; close it and open it again to see VIP 15.
-
Battle Pass + Growth
Sets the purchased flag on the paid Battle Pass track and unlocks both Growth packs, so you can claim rewards normally reserved for paying players.
Requires VipMod VIP1. Turn this on BEFORE launching the game; if you turn it on mid-game, you have to fully close and reopen the game for it to work. These two only appear after you clear Chapter 1-1: the game opens the Growth Fund at around level 7 and the Battle Pass right after; before that the screens don't exist yet, so there's nothing to claim. Once they're open, go to the Growth Fund and claim each slot in both paid columns, while the Battle Pass needs you to play and rank up before its slots become claimable. Tested on Sep 3: claiming all six Growth Fund slots put exactly 4,050 rubies and 10,000 gold straight into the account.

Unlock all heroes
Marks every character in the list as owned, so you can take them into battle without collecting cards.
CURRENTLY BROKEN: turning it on doesn't unlock any extra characters yet. Re-tested on Sep 3 on game version 1.8.3: the mod does write the owned flag to all 15 characters and the flag survives quitting the game, but the Select Hero panel before a battle looks exactly the same with this on or off, and the second character still only has a Try button rather than becoming yours. The two hero management screens, the Heroes tab and the Hero's Pack tab, are locked by THE GAME ITSELF until Chapter 2-1, which has nothing to do with the mod. We're still tracking down the right spot to fix, so don't count on this option for now.

Battle speed-up
Forces every frame of the battle to advance by a fixed time step, so monsters, cooldowns and the clock all speed up together without falling out of sync. At the default of 0.033, the battle clock runs almost twice as fast.
This is a fixed step per frame, not a multiplier: a phone that renders fewer frames gets a lower speed from the same step, and setting a step lower than your phone's real frame time will slow the game down. This option is off by default, and turning it on or off both need a game restart — switch it off mid-battle and that battle keeps running fast until you quit the game. Tested on Sep 3: at 0.067 the battle clock ran 3.9 times real time, and fully off it's exactly 1x.

About this game
I opened Hero Survival IO because the cover art promised a sea of monsters, and the first stage really did have enough of a monster sea to enjoy. But on my sixth run that evening, the Play button in the middle of the screen grayed out, showing the number 5 and a lightning bolt.
The stall had nothing to do with difficulty, since losing a stage here still earns rewards as usual. It's that just as the game gets good, it tells you to sit and wait, and that wait has nothing to do with whether you play well or badly.
A stage lasts about two minutes, and they're two packed minutes
You swipe one finger across the screen to run, and your hero automatically shoots at the nearest enemy, so the only thing you really have to do well is dodge. Monsters crawl out in waves, and the clock at the top of the screen counts up, not down.
Right under the clock is a progress bar studded with red skulls that tell you where the bosses will appear. My first run died at exactly two minutes, with 1,434 monsters left behind me, and yet the results screen still dropped XP and a few gear fragments.
That's what I liked about this game from the start: losing isn't punished, a loss simply means that run is over.
Three cards at every level-up, with Evolution written underneath
Collect enough of the gems monsters drop and your hero levels up, then the game pauses and fans out three skill cards for you to pick one. Some cards carry a green Recommend stamp, and some have a small extra line underneath.
That line says either "Pairs with" or "Evolves", next to the icon of another skill. It's the reminder that the two can combine into a much stronger attack. That's why every run plays a little differently, since the three cards you draw are random each time.
If you want to swap the three on display there's a Reroll button, but tapping it means sitting through a whole ad. With monsters closing in, I always just picked one and kept running.
Outside battle, a whole lobby is waiting
The main screen is the chapter map, starting at Chapter 1-1 in a secret forest, and each chapter splits into several smaller stages. Around it is a thick ring of icons: daily check-in, daily quests, the Golden Pig and Super Deals.
The Events icon leads to a board game where you roll dice to move across reward squares. The part worth spending the most time in, though, is the Character screen, with six gear slots and tabs for Heroes, Assistants, Runes and the Bag.
Right next to it is the Evolution tree, a diagram of hexagonal nodes where every node you unlock lights up three new ones on the tier below. This is the place that swallows more resources than anything else in the game.
The Shop has four tabs, and the Equipment tab is the one you'll keep coming back to. It has a gear-spinning machine that eats rubies, silver and gold chests that eat keys, and at the bottom a few packs that trade rubies for gold.
Six runs and your stamina is gone, and the game asks for money right there
A full stamina bar is thirty and every stage takes exactly five, so one uninterrupted session lasts exactly six runs and that's it. A new account gets thirty thousand gold, which sounds like a lot until you start spending it.
Upgrading a weapon from level one to two already costs a thousand gold plus a fragment, and the next step jumps to two thousand. The Evolution tree is even more heavy-handed: a single node asks for three skill points plus twenty thousand gold, and the tree has dozens of nodes like that.
Simple division shows that the starting thirty thousand gold only covers one and a half nodes, after which you're back at square one and have to go grind again.
Rubies are even tighter: one spin of the gear machine costs three hundred rubies, a ten-spin costs two thousand five hundred, and a new account holds exactly zero. Converting the other way isn't pleasant either, since ninety rubies get you only thirty-nine thousand gold.
So the fastest route to rubies the game suggests is still the paid packs, which cost $0.99 to $99.99 per item on the US Google Play store.
The mod undoes exactly those knots
The red MOD button sits on the left edge of the screen; tap it for a list of switches, with sliders to set your own numbers. I turned everything on and restarted the game, and by the time I reached the lobby the top bar had completely changed.
9.9 million gold, 99,000 rubies, stamina at 1,009 of 30. And those numbers can really be spent; they're not just there to look nice in the status bar.
I went into the Evolution tree and tapped level up three times in a row: the first node hit Max and three new branches lit up. Gold dropped from 10.1 million to exactly 10 million, precisely the cost of that node.
All three kinds of chest keys jumped to 9,999. I opened a ten-pull at the Gold Chest and got ten pieces of gear, one of them purple, and every slot in the Bag also went up to x999. I used those very fragments to tap Max Level on my weapon, and it leapt straight from level two to level twenty, with the fragment count dropping from 999 to 925.
After reopening it once, the profile panel showed VIP 15 with its five bonus lines, which pulled my combat power up from 2,610 to 3,753.
For the battle speed-up I used a stopwatch to be sure. With it off, the battle clock moved eight seconds in eight and a half real seconds, normal pace. With it on at the default setting, the battle clock covered seventeen seconds in roughly the same time.
In other words, almost twice as fast, and the number of monsters you take down in a run goes up with it. A few things to know up front so your expectations are right:
- Turn the switches on before you launch the game. Flipping them mid-session does almost nothing until you fully close the game and come back in.
- The balance bar at the top is lazy about redrawing, so don't jump to the conclusion that the mod is broken; just open an upgrade panel and you'll see the new number.
- For the VIP option, tap the avatar in the top-left corner once as soon as you reach the lobby. The first time it still shows VIP 0; close it and open it again to see VIP 15.
Two menu options I couldn't rate at first
The menu has two more switches that I turned on without finding anywhere to check the result, so I'll say so plainly instead of promising blindly. Battle Pass and Growth had no screen to open, because a new account in Chapter 1 hasn't reached them yet, and no season was running while I played. We've since tested it on Sep 3: once the Growth Fund opens after Chapter 1-1, claiming all six of its slots put exactly 4,050 rubies and 10,000 gold into the account.
Unlock all heroes is a little more complicated. The Heroes tab on the Character screen is locked by the game itself based on progress, not by the mod. And the Select Hero panel before each battle looked exactly the same with the switch on or off, so I had no basis to say whether it worked. A later re-test on Sep 3 settled it: for now it doesn't, so don't count on this option until it's fixed.
What it's like to actually play
What I like most is that there's nothing to learn: one swiping finger and you're playing. All the depth lives in combining skills, so there's still something to think about.
The annoyance is just as clear: the sheer number of purchase pop-ups. Every time you return to the lobby, three or four offer packs pop up one after another, and you have to keep tapping the X to reach the Play button. The mid-battle card reroll is always tied to an ad.
One more thing to mention up front: the real-money shop doesn't open when the game runs inside VipMod. The buy buttons just show three dots instead of a price. For mod users that hardly matters, because what those packs sell is exactly what the menu switches already give you.
On Google Play, Hero Survival IO holds 4.5 stars from 36,895 ratings and more than a million downloads, enough to show it isn't a rushed job. I also cut the connection and played again, and a whole stage, from tapping Play to collecting the reward, ran smoothly.
So who should play it
If you're looking for something to fill fifteen minutes of waiting without having to remember a story or time your check-ins, this kind of game fits just right. Each run wraps up in a few minutes, losing still pays, and the skills you draw differ every time, so replays still feel fresh.
And if you installed this game before and dropped it right where the stamina ran out, or where the Evolution tree wanted twenty thousand gold for a single node, the mod removes exactly those two locks. You can play back to back without waiting, every node can be opened, and what's left is the part of the game worth playing, not the part that makes you queue.
